Affiliate Marketing – the Easiest Way To Earn Good Money?

Times are tough all over, and everyone’s looking for an easy way to earn extra cash.

Normally, there are two ways to earn money:

  1. Sell products (stuff)
  2. Sell services (your skills)

But what if you don’t have the products or skills to sell right now? There is a third way, which is becoming more popular.

If you have the ability to publish a web page (which is easy today using WordPress or one of the many online publishing services) – or even if you just have a bunch of friends on email – you can earn good money just by promoting other people’s products and services.

Enter Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is big business these days – really big! And anyone can do it.

The world is fighting for our attention. There are thousands of people out there who believe they have good products (or maybe not!), and want people’s attention.

If you can help tell your contacts about these products, you can earn good money. And the best thing is, you don’t have to sign anyone up, handle any payments, package any products… All you do is point people in the right direction.

At Web Design from Scratch we help sell a few different products as affiliates, but only products we believe in (like Market Samurai, SEO PowerSuite, WordTracker, AWeber, Basecamp, Visual Website Optimizer). It’s much better (and easier) to promote something you actually love.

How Affiliate Marketing Works

In its simplest form, upon signing up as an affiliate, you get your own unique link, which you can publish online, or send out in emails.

Something like this …

<a href="http://www.somesite.com/shop.php?partner=YourAffiliateID">Buy Now!</a>

Whenever someone follows that link, they’ll go to the vendor’s website, and the link identifies that visitor as having been sent by you.

Then, if they go on to buy, the affiliate management system will note that you provided the lead, and you’ll be compensated. It’s as easy as that!

(Some systems are more complicated, such as CPA (cost per action) marketing, where people have to complete a certain action, usually filling in a form.)

How Much Can You Earn?

It totally depends on what you’re selling, what the profit margin is, and how much the vendor can earn over time.

Sometimes, you can get 100% (or more than 100%) of the original amount the customer pays – because of future additional revenue!

For one-off sales of digital products, the typical affiliate percentage is 50%. That’s because there’s usually very low cost of sale, which means high profit.

If you get serious, there are many good affiliate networks, which will show you a range of products to sell. Commission Junction and ClickBank are good places to start.

Ben, nice article! You’re right, with the economy the way it is, more people are looking for alternatives that will help them to enjoy a good living. Certainly, corporate jobs are not that anymore!

Another suggestion is network marketing, especially with health and wellness products. It is very similar in concept to affiliate marketing, but a person can build long term customers with the products and often a good living can be made with fewer network marketing sites, not the many that affiliates need, too often.

And, best of all, as a multilevel marketing business grows, they can still offer great tools like yours and earn additional income by offering the tools to their business builders.

I am doing around 200 GBP (converted to AUD) of affiliate sales. Not huge but it’s on 5%.

More eyeballs will see this circa 500 pounds pcm which is handy.

Tim, how are you earning your £200/m? Or is that what you’re paying out to affiliates? Is this on http://www.tourdefrancetips.com? I see you have an affiliate page at http://www.tourdefrancetips.com/affiliates/
